Two clean and simple wellness shots to prep and try for the week. These come together with minimal equipment. Full of probiotics, fiber, and immunity supporting ingredients.

Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric Wellness Shot
This is one of those shots that you see everywhere in the stores and they charge upwards of $4 for. You can easily make these at home. Typically I buy fresh lemons and ginger root and use frozen turmeric. I find that the in preparing the fresh turmeric it stains my fingers and chopping board. The frozen stuff is just as powerful and much more convenient. Check out your local Trader Joes which is where I found mine. If you can’t find that, ground turmeric in the spice aisle will work just as well.

- 3 Fresh Lemons
- 1 Fresh Orange (optional)
- 3 inch piece of fresh ginger root (with skin removed)
- 1 tsp fresh black peppercorns
- 2 cubes or 2 tsp turmeric
Having tried making this recipe in both the juicer and the blender, I have found that it tastes better from the blender. When I used the juicer, I added the whole lemon including the rind which made the juice more bitter. Now I just use the juice of the lemon, juicing by hand, and then blending with the other ingredients.

Combining turmeric with black pepper, dramatically increases it’s health benefits enhancing it’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. This and the ginger can make the shot have a punch – you may notice a warming sensation after drinking.
Kefir and garden berry probiotic wellness shot
If you have never tried kefir before, it is a fermented yogurt style drink that is high in protein and calcium and packed with beneficial live probiotic cultures. You can find it in the dairy section of your local grocery store. We pair this with frozen mixed berries and milled flaxseed. Flaxseed is a tiny but nutritional powerhouse – packed with Omega-3’s and fiber and is known to improve cardiac and digestive health.
- 1 1/2 cups Low fat Plain Kefir
- 1 cup Frozen Mixed Berries
- 3 tbsp Milled Flaxseed

I blend the ingredients using the nutribullet, blending until the seeds and flaxseed are broken down. Because of the berries and the kefir, these shots are pretty sour, so if they are not to your taste, go ahead and add in some honey or a sweetener of your choice.

I stored all of these shots in the refrigerator in these adorable 2oz glass jars.
