Hydroponic Garden Update: February Growth Insights

Amazing Hydroponic Growth

I wanted to share an update on our hydroponic garden growth in February. Earlier in the winter I started peppers, American fast lettuce and sweet peas in my InBloom Hydroponic garden. For full details on our hydroponic setup, check out my post on plant care tips for thriving hydroponic gardens.

Growing lettuce hydroponically is incredibly satisfying as it grows very quickly and you can continue to harvest leaves and more will grow. There’s nothing better than in the dead of winter, still being able to harvest salad for a quick lunch. I was curious to grow both peppers and peas hydroponically. Peas are climbers and the way the unit is setup, there isn’t much vertical space. I did have some strings placed horizontally from before which I was hoping the peas would cling to. They did need some help and I added some Velcro plant ties to help support them. We found the peppers very slow to start, which is pretty typical of peppers which are tropical and like heat. Once they got going, they got big quick!

You can see how out of control the peas got. My cats were also incredibly interested in the vines and had been chewing on them. This did set the plant back a bit, but the peas are now beginning to flower.

I took out one of the four pepper plants and planted it in a pot with indoor potting soil to see if it would grow. So far, it is thriving. I’m not sure what type of pepper it is, but I’m excited to see if it will produce. I have left the others in the hydroponic garden for now to see which does best.

The lettuce production has slowed down, most likely because the other plants were taking over and fighting for the light. I usually need to add water every week. I fertilize with a liquid fertilizer specifically for hydroponic gardens every two weeks.

It’s been a rewarding winter watching these peppers, American fast lettuce, and sweet peas thrive. I’m thrilled with how the InBloom Hydroponic garden has handled the February growth, and I can’t wait to see what the next month brings for this indoor harvest!
